Question: What is the purpose of the church? And if this is different for different denominations, say that, break it down for me.
Is it to be a place where people only become members after taking a vow to follow certain biblical standards?
Is it to be a place of mentorship and discipleship where people join so that they can grow and learn?
Is it a "hospital" where everyone is welcome and the more mature Christians are the nurses and doctors who help "treat" those coming for help?
What is the line between attending and membership (if there is one) and what purpose does that line serve?
I get boundaries and being safe but I don't get rejection for imperfection when we all are.
I get it, it's hard. It was hard for us as youth pastors of a church where we were told to stop doing so much outreach because the "bad" kids were affecting the "good" kids. That hurt and I didn't get it at the time BUT now, having kids who are asking not to go to certain church events because some of the "bad" kids curse and bully... I get it.
So what is a church to do? I don't have the answer but I think there's a lot of confusion out there on what the purpose of the church is that needs to be clarified up front so people don't get h
